Kristen's Last Day

It's like Ace of Cakes in the office today. Kristen and Erin baked cakes for each other today as Sunday is Erin's Birthday and today is Kristen's last day in the office. She is heading over to the Med School to coordinate events. We will all miss having her on our team and wish her the best in her new role.

Erin's Birthday!!!

Erin turns 27 on Sunday! Happy Birthday Erin!

FRIIIIIIIIDAYYYYY

Happy Friday! And Happy Leap Day!!! Today, frogs everywhere are celebrating.

It's been awhile since we've seen Mike Myers on the big screen but the trailer for his next flick, The Love Guru has surfaced online. Hereeeeee's Mikey:

Did you happen to see the show Quarterlife? The show started on the web and then aired on NBC to very low ratings. It has been pulled and will be showing soon on Bravo. Have a great weekend!!!!!

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Nothing warms me up like Tom Jones! How do you like to warm up?

So I've got some exciting news. I'm now on Second Life. Calm down, don't get so excited. I have created a Second Life to explore ways of fundraising and building an NYU presence. It's hard for me to believe that people have the time to use Second Life but apparently people do! So I've created my avatar, and yesterday flew in on a class that was learning how to use SL from the University of Omaha. Yikes! What have I gotten myself into?

Back to Work, back to the blog

You may have noticed that there was no blog entry yesterday. Well, it was a somewhat crazy day. When I arrived at work at 7:45 I stepped through the front doors and all of a sudden the lights began to flicker. Then they went out. Then one of the facilities staff came up from downstairs saying "there's smoke in the electrical room, call FDNY". Then firetrucks came, and more firetrucks, then emergency vehicles, then Con Ed. They roped off the entire block and evacuated all the adjacent buildings. We were sent home. I took some photos to document the event which I will post below.

Have you seen Bill Carter's article in the NYT's today about Jay Leno? Looks like he's going to be around for awhile.

And did you hear about this kid who got suspended from kindergarten because of his Mohawk?

And for all of you running for mayor, it's probably best not to pose for photos in your undergarments.

And then the Oscars were over...

I look forward every year to watching the Academy Awards and I thoroughly enjoyed the show last night. Elissa and I saw There Will Be Blood over the weekend and if you haven't seen it, go see it before it leaves theaters. Daniel Day-Lewis is incredible. If you happened to be watching the pre-pre Oscar show on E! you would have seen a somewhat uncomfortable Ryan Seacrest and a run-in with Gary Busey! Thanks to someone for posting this clip so quickly so that I may put it in my blog. Enjoy:

Funny eh? Really threw Ryan and Jennifer off.

ATTENTION!! It appears as though the folks over at Pringles have run out of ideas for new flavors. Do we really need more Pringles? Well now they have introduced Pickle flavored Pringles. Say that 5 times fast!

I missed SNL on Saturday night but saw there were a few clips online...we can watch them together....now....

SNOW!!

The commute this morning was rough. The roads are not good, Mass Transit is running late but I braved the weather and made it to work. I'm thinking of taking a half day so that I can get home before things get worse and icier. How was your commute?

Here's something that is bound to brighten up your day!

Total Eclipse of My Heart

I hope you were able to catch some of the lunar eclipse last night. It was beautiful and the moon this morning was stunning.

During the eclipse, the Earth lined up directly between the Sun and Moon, covering the latter with the Earth's shadow. Depending on atmospheric conditions on Earth, the moon should have appeared blood red, rusty or grey.

If you missed it, don't worry, the next one will take place in 2010.

They sucessfully shot down the spy satellite! Yay!

Have you seen Phantom of the Opera? Well as you know a huge chandelier comes crashing down to the stage. That's also exactly what happened to a 400 pound chandelier in the apartment of Anna Anisimova. as only Page Six would report. Luckily, she wasn't hurt.

Do you know who Howard Cogan is? Well, maybe you've heard of the phrase he coined, "Ithaca is Gorges". You can't walk 5 feet in NYC without seeing someone wearing a shirt with this phrase. Mr. Cogan died last week.

And now, here's another news blooper! You know how I love them.

Flea Circus

If you're planning on taking a trip to Deltona, FL in the near future, you may want to rethink that trip. Currently, they are experiencing a major flea problem.

"I walked through, into the back yard and walked back into my house and I was covered from head to toe with fleas," neighbor Leslie Larson said. "The fleas come from the lawn, rats and dogs they didn't take care of."

When asked what the town is going to do, the mayor answered simply "Get rid of all pets".

Did you see that during the opening of "Hardball" on Monday night Chris Matthews was previewing a story on the controversy over Obama's use of another politician's words, and a picture of bin Laden briefly flashed on the screen beside him with the headline "Words About Words."? Well an NBC employee is now in big trouble.

This confusion has happened before...let's go to the videotape:

I was on the R train after class last night and saw an ad for Bowlmor Lanes that caught my attention. They always have these wild, sexually charged ads. Here's the one I saw last night:

What do you think of this? I stared at the ad for the entire trip to Port Authority. Is this going to make women want to go bowling? Are they trying to target men with this ad?

Don't forget to look at the Lunar Eclipse tonight and if you liked the book Where The Wild Things Are, be sure to click to here to see an early test clip from the film.

Your Number? WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER????

I hope you had a great President's Day Weekend! It went by so quickly! On Saturday night, Elissa and I went with friends to see The Diving Bell and the Butterfly at the Angelika. I highly recommend this film. It's a moving story and brilliantly directed by Julian Schnabel.

On Sunday night, Elissa and I met up with Jon and Justine for a delicious Thai meal in Montclair and even though the weather was nasty, we made our way over to the infamous Holsten's for some ice cream in Bloomfield. Now, this is where the final scene in the Sopranos took place. It is also a place that my dad used to go to when he was a kid. If you're in the area, you should definitely make a stop.

Last night, was Chinese night and we went to pickup the Chinese food. There were about four husbands waiting to pick up food and the woman behind the counter seemed to be stressing out. She thought some woman left without paying but she didn't. She was waiting for some Hoison sauce to take home for her daughter. Then the woman behind the counter turns to me and says "Number?" I look at her like...huh? YOUR PHONE NUMBER!!!??? It was like I was being interrogated. Where was the bright light lady? Why are you screaming at your customers? I see where Seinfeld and Larry David get their material from..and perhaps I should start writing about some of these experiences in more detail.

While I'm on the subject of Chinese I thought I'd share with you an email I received from an ebay seller in China. Yes, this is real and it made me smile:

Dear friend:
Thanks for your love,i have sent the item to you today, you will receive them soon,it is very beautiful,i believe you will be very love it,thanks for your love again,If you have any question or need ,please contact me timely,i will try our best to meet your needs, very happy deal with you,Hope to deal with you continue,Best wishes for you and yours!happy every day!

Mamma Mia!

I hope you had a Rockin Valentine's Day yesterday! After work, Elissa came into the city to meet me for an Italian dinner and then we went to see Mamma Mia. I'll admit I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to enjoy the show, but I did. I mean, come on, it's ABBA. The movie is coming out soon and I'm curious what they did with it. Is Pierce Brosnan going to be singing? Now I can't get the damn songs out of my head. It was a really fun night and luckily we made an earlier train.

Jane Fonda used a vulgar word on The Today Show yesterday as she promoted V-day..and one, and two, move to left, and up and down...phew.

Uh oh, we all know and love the naked cowboy who stands at Times Square strumming his guitar and showing off his underwear. Now he's mad...

Robert Burck is unhappy that a blue M&M was dressed in his skimpy trademark outfit for a video billboard ad, reports the New York Post.

The ad, which shows the animated sweet in a white hat, boots, guitar and underwear, attracts customers to M&M's Times Square store.

It is virtually identical to the outfit worn by the Naked Cowboy each day in Times Square where he has become a tourist attraction.

Cookies!

Happy Happy Happy Hallmark!

The first recorded association of Valentine's Day with romantic love is in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer:[5]

For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese [choose] his make [mate].

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful day with your loved ones. And if there's time, be sure to stop off at your local 711 to try their new SLURPUCCINO

I watched the trailer for CJ7 last night, the new movie by Stephen Chow, the director and star of Kung Fu Hustle, which if you haven't seen I recommend. It's silly but fun. Here's the trailer for his new film:

Have a great day!!! ooooh. Erin brought cookies.

Snow, then ice, now flooding...good thing I built an Arc

I had a great class last night. It took place in the loft of a brilliant artist, Lloyd Mcneil. He shared with us his paintings, music, poetry, and thoughts on being an artist and art. It was really great. The only problem was that I had been dreading the commute home. When I got out of class the streets and sidewalks were snowy. I had to urinate when I arrived at the beautiful Port Authority so I quickly went into the mens room. I had a weird feeling from two very sketchy men in there who stared at me so I left to find that the 8:30 bus was still waiting to depart. Luckily I got a seat. The bus driver carefully navigated the snow covered roads. I made it home safely and awoke to icy conditions with flooding. And yet, I still made it to work early.

It looks like the Oscars are going to take place after all now that the Writers Strike has ended!

And Aretha is pissed!

And a Beagle wins Westminster

And now for my clip of the day. Another product we all have to have.

The Candy Man Can

It's another cold day in NYC and snow is on the way tonight in NJ. I am planning on making a trip during my lunch break to EconomyCandy! with some of my coworkers. I have been wanting to go to this candy store for quite some time and I'm wondering if we are really going to brave the cold to go there. I'll bring you back some Bonkers.

While I'm on the topic of candy. Have you bought any Valentine's Day candy? Well some stores in NYC may be stocking their shelves with candy from last year, and they even have photos of worms eating chocolate hearts. Gross. Good dieting trick though. MMM...I want some chocolate (look at CBS news photo of worm in chocolate)..ehhh..I'll have a piece of fruit instead.

There was a huge Blackberry outtage yesterday and I'm sure it threw people for a spin. Well, no outtages here my friends:

That's right, a demonstration of Google's Android software.

Take it away Dennis...

Phew, that was a breathe of fresh air. Thanks for that beautiful rendition of Sixteen Tons. Stay warm!

Blog from the train

right now i am on a very delayed train and decided to Blog from my phone. I only have a thousand words so It's going to be brief. Did you watch the grammy awards last night? I usually don't enjoy the show but i thought it was amazing last night. The performances were amazing and visually very cool. I want a pair of those glasses kanye was wearing. New performers and old performers teamed up to sing. I can't type any more on this little pad and someone is reading this over my shoulder. Stay warm today.

Ice Cream Soda Friday

Who likes Ice Cream Soda????? Well if you do, there's a new product on the market you are going to go nuts...soda for. It's called The Fizz. Here are the instructions for their website which I encourage you to check out because there is a nifty video on there as well.

How to use the Fizz Cup — It's Simple & Fun!
Fill the Fizz Cup with ice cream then snap on the lid
Insert a straw into the bottom of the cup so it fits snug inside the tip of the cone-shaped tube
Twist it onto your favorite drink bottle—will only work with common plastic soda bottles
Squeeze the bottle, a little at a time, and watch it Fizz inside the lid
Sip it, spoon it, slurp it, Smile! Mix 'em up or keep 'em separated
When you're finished, rinse it out in warm water—It's reusable, but not dishwasher safe

Sounds great huh? Well here's a demonstration:

Looks like I'll be going to Chicago this Weekend!!!!

Spurlock Holmes

Morgan Spurlock gained fame with his super-sized documentary, Super Size Me. I must mention that he is an NYU alumnus and used to be a playwright. He has a tv show called 30 Days and has worked on other documentaries as well. His most recent project was shown at Sundance this year and it's called Where In The World Is Osama Bin Laden. Here's the trailer:

Elissa and I recently watched a documentary which was introduced by Mr. Spurlock called Confessions of a Superhero portions of which are so beautifully shot. The film takes a look at four wannabe actors who play the roles of superheroes on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The movie felt a little long but it was fascinating to me to see what these people's lives are like. I've always wondered about all of those characters hanging out in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater.

Happy Chinese New Year! It's the year of the rat, so when you see one run by you while you're waiting for the C train, celebrate!

In other news, the renovations in Washington Square Park are well underway. The fountain is completely gone and most of the park is fenced off. It has been announced that NYU graduation is going to take place at Yankee Stadium! Should be fun! I wonder who's going to throw the first pitch?

Oprah Saves The Day!!!

Did you see this article about Oprah? She saved the day once again when she resolved a voting glitch in Chicago. Oprah, if you are reading this blog, I hope one day we can meet over a cup of tea. That would be nice.

Remember Reverand Billy? Well he was at it again last weekend in front of a 45 year old shoe repair shop being priced out of the East Village. Take a look:

Yesterday we had a huge Mardi Gras celebration at work, sort of. Erin brought us all beads and even a King Cake with a plastic baby inside. I devoured a piece of this cake and was afraid I swallowed the baby. I didn't. I am looking forward to going back to New Orleans in the near future. If you haven't been you must go.

Please, please, please...keep your mailbag questions coming. I'm going to answer them tomorrow or Friday so email your questions to me or post them as comments.

* And finally, I have been trying to get myself invited to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. I sent letters, poems, singing telegrams, anything I could think of to get myself in. Two weeks ago, the invitation I had been waiting for was delivered in the mail, a cruel joke played on me by the Vanity Fair folks. Cruel.

* The following sentences are a lie. I never did such a thing.

YAY!!!!!

Erin was so nice to bring me back a jar of Central Grocery's Famous Italian Olive Salad from New Orleans!!!!!! I am so excited!!!!! How about some more exclamation marks? !!!!!!!!!!!!

Look! Up In The Sky! It's A Bird, It's a Plane...It's SUPER TUESDAY!!!

That's right fellow readers, today is your day to Rock The Vote. I woke up early this morning so I could get my vote in when the polls opened at 6:00am. I pushed the button and pressed another button and I was done. It is that easy! I have class tonight and I'm hoping I'll be able to catch some of the coverage when I get home.

I know Oprah endorsed Obama early on...Oprah, Obama, Obama, Oprah. Will Oprah's millions of viewers be persuaded by her to vote for him? I would imagine so. Everyone flocks to stores to buy her favorite things, isn't Obama just another one of her favorite things? She should have wrapped him in a bow and had her little elves bring out little Obama's for everyone!! Sorry, I got carried away.

Today's a busy day..Super Tuesday and the Ticker Tape Parade for The Giants.

Have you seen the posters for The Oscars? I wonder what's going to happen? Watching this show is a guilty pleasure and I'm wondering how it's going to play out. Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences urged nominees to attend the ceremony even if the strike is still going on. I wonder what Bruce Vilanch is doing right now...

I love a good news blooper. I'm still not sure this is real because it seems sort of staged to me, but funny nontheless.

Giant Giants

I could feel the excitement in the air this morning during my commute. People seemed friendlier..laughing and smiling, bonding over the Giants winning the SuperBowl. Why can't people be like this everyday? People should be this friendly (in NJ and NYC) everyday!

The closest I ever was to being a football fan was in middle school when I had my parents buy me a Giants sweatshirt. I recently got rid of this sweatshirt, a few months too early. It's snowing right now in the city and everyone is chatting about the game. I didn't know this, but apparently the baboons are huge Giants fans...

And here is a photo that Erin sent me from New Orleans. She's there for Mardi Gras and sent me this shot of mini muffalatas. Oh boy oh boy!

Happy Monday!

Every Man Jack

Every now and then I will come across a line of products that are so good I can't help but mention them on this blog. Well I found a line of products for men called Every Man Jack, a company based in San Francisco. They use natural products and not only do I love the citrus body wash, but their shaving products are fantastic and smell good too! You can buy the products at Target or at their online store.

Super Tuesday is right around the corner and it's going to be interesting to see what happens. I came across this video and it made me laugh as it is taken from one of my favorite muppet skits:

Some people should just not be working in television, hell, some people shouldn't be leaving the house...

I have to start bringing my lunch to work and have been trying to come up with some good things to make. Any ideas? I was thrilled to see that this German company that specializes in foods for hikers now has a Cheeseburger in a can!!!

Hope you have a wonderful Super Bowl Weekend. Honey, take out the chips and dip, I'm on my way home.
