So it's Friday and I'm in a great mood. No, I did not watch the Lost Season Finale last night but I'm looking forward to watching it this weekend. I decided to wait to watch it online or on Elissa's DVR so that I can bypass the commercials and not waste an entire two hours.

How many men do you think are going to watch Sex and The City this weekend? Well, I'm sure not going. And check this out. I really don't like this show...I tried watching it but the women are so annoying and unappealing to me. It's like listening to nails scratch a chalk board. Okay, now that I got that out I feel much better.

NYC Snow in May!

That's right, I snapped a photo yesterday of snow in Manhattan in May. Well it wasn't real. It was part of the set for The Rebound, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Justin Bartha. According to IMDB the plot consists of:

In New York City, a single mom captivates her new neighbor, a much younger man.

Oooh..sounds great! Such an original and new idea. I'm excited to see how they pass off winter in May.

Apparently, Bill O'Reilly isn't the only bug that needs to be exterminated at Fox.

Joan Clark, a twelve year veteran of Fox News, can no longer go to work
after suffering emotional distress due to a continuous and ongoing bedbug
problem at work. Since October, Fox News has been struggling to control a
bedbug infestation at its headquarters, located at 1211 Avenue of the
Americas, in NYC without success. Ms. Clark, bitten in the original influx
in October '07, then in November '07, was once again attacked by these
swarming insects on April 30, 2007.

I hate the thought of bedbugs and I'm going to try to put that thought out of my mind right now by transitioning to a story about a naked burglar.


The Associated Press reports that:

TAMPA (AP) - She was the naked maid -- and she cleaned him out. That's according to authorities in Hillsborough County, Florida. Deputies say a 50-year-old man hired a nude housekeeper -- at $100 dollars an hour -- from an Internet posting. Sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Carter says the man told deputies he left the maid alone in the bedroom to clean. The victim told authorities when his wife came home from vacation, she discovered $40,000 worth of jewelry missing from the bedroom in their Tampa-area home. The investigation continues.


Sources say the maid was found on Craigslist. I wonder what he told his wife when she found out her jewelry was missing. And where did the naked maid hide the loot? Maybe the guy should hire a naked investigator to get it back.

And I was happy to hear that Apple is working on creating a solar-powered iphone.

I haven't done a DVD pick of the week in awhile so this week's choice is Grace is Gone starring John Cusack. I saw a screening of this film at Sundance and it is an incredibly moving film with brilliant acting from Mr. Cusack and the girls who play his daughters. Definitely one to add to the Netflix Queue.

They've been saying robots are going to replace humans forever and I was really happy to see this video of Honda's ASIMO. I have come to have a new found respect for Honda ever since I got my Honda Civic which is giving me 35 miles to the gallon.

NJ Trans*it

The conductor on the train this morning made the following announcement: "Attention passengers, we are an extremely crowded train..gas prices are very high so we are very crowded..take your personal items off the seats so your fellow passengers can sit." Ummm..helloo? The train has been crowded everyday for the past XXX years. And, today there were less people on the train than usual. So now you are blaming gas for the crowded trains? How about using those double deckers for my train? Wouldn't that make sense?

I had an amazing weekend in Vermont. It was so beautiful and if you've never been I highly suggest taking a long weekend there this summer. I didn't have my camera with me so I don't have any photos to post. While there, Geoffrey was nice enough to take an impression of my mouth for a retainer. I'm going to have to wear one so that my front teeth can be pushed out further. So much for all of those years of sucking my thumb. I also found out that I may have to lose the four wise men and women that reside in my mouth, my wisdom teeth. Even though they have grown in nicely, apparently they should be removed so that my other teeth have more room to shift. Sounds like fun.

And did you hear, Richard Dreyfuss has been cast to play Dick Cheney in Oliver Stone's much anticipated film, "W".

And now, for my story of the day. Yesterday, the train ride home was packed. People were standing and there was a woman standing (woman #1) a few seats in front of me. She was reading and minding her own business when another woman (woman #2), sitting next to woman #1 started saying that she should turn around because it would be easier for people to walk by. Woman #1 looked confused and asked woman #2 if she was bumping into her. Woman #2 said no, but that woman #1 wouldn't be blocking the aisle as much if she would turn around. It was the most ridiculous inappropriate comment. She wasn't blocking the aisle at all and something was wrong with woman #2. Then an argument broke out. Some passenger was trying to get away without paying and the conductors followed him and there was a confrontation in the vestibule between my car and the car in front of me. There was yelling and then all of a sudden, Woman #2 gets up, opens the door and starts involving herself in the fight. The conductor tells her to go back into the car and she refuses and they start arguing. I couldn't believe it. There was obviously something wrong with this woman that she had to involve herself in everyone's business. I've never seen anything like it. She got off in Millburn and I hope she's reading this.

It's a big holiday weekend and tons of people took of today because the train and subway were empty. I'll be heading up to Vermont and am looking forward to it!

Snow In May

That's right, it's another rainy day here in New York City but the Memorial Day Weekend is looking amazing. I'll be heading up to Vermont where they are expecting snow! (Only in Northern VT though) it will be warm in Southern Vermont.

I haven't really followed this past American Idol as much as I should have, but I wasn't impressed with many of the voices this season. I was rooting for David Archuleta but rocker David Cook took this years title of...American Idol by a whopping 12 million votes. The show was packed with performances by Donna Summer, Graham Nash,Bryan Adams, the Jonas Brothers, ZZ Top, George Michael, Mike Myers as The Love Guru, and the best part was the unseen footage of Gladys Knight and Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. as Pips. I am very excited to see that Baz Luhrmann's new film, Australia is coming to theaters soon. I have been looking forward to this flick and it looks good. So does The Foot Fist Way from funnymen Adam Mckay and Will Ferrell. Indiana Jones is here and I can't wait to see it this weekend.

Yosuke Nakamura Want A Cracker?

Did you see this story about Yosuke the parrot, who flew out of his cage, got lost, and when transferred to a veterinary hospital, he told the vets "I'm Mr. Yosuke Nakamura".

"I'm Mr. Yosuke Nakamura," the bird told the veterinarian, according to Uemura. The parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs.

So I took a cab to Port Authority yesterday because I had a doctor's appointment and while I don't take cabs often, when I do, the driver doesn't say much to me. Yesterday was different. Steven is from Brooklyn and drives a cab part-time. He loves baseball and used to be a limo driver. He's married to an English Professor and has two boys. He prefers taking eighth avenue rather than sixth avenue. He likes commenting on other drivers, like a woman who was next to us gripping the wheel. "She has the death grip", Steven said. It was tough conversing with him because I wasn't feeling great but I laughed and responded appropriately.

Is That A Banana In Your Pocket?

I snapped this photo on my way to work this morning. At first I thought it was Brian Z in front of me with his new banana diet, but then I realized it was 7:35am and Brian Z was probably still in bed. The banana looked as though it was about to fall out.

Did you see the moon last night? It was beautiful and so bright. I took this photo from bed last night because it was shining brightly into my room.

Did you know that Whole Foods now carries Ostrich eggs? They actually have a huge assortment of exotic eggs but the Ostrich eggs fascinate me.

So I was on the train yesterday and saw John Rice from GHI, the medical insurance company. Do I know John, noooooo...but John was wearing his work ID so we were introduced that way. I don't understand why people wear these work IDs outside of the office. Perhaps John forgot to take his off but I see a bunch of people with theirs on. Maybe they want to show off their place of work or perhaps they want people to start up a conversation, "Oh you work for GHI, those crooks". Perhaps I should start clipping my NYU ID to my shirt pocket. Maybe everyone should be required to wear their work IDs so that we can network on the train. "Excuse me, I see that you work at HBO, can you give me a job?".

I really wasn't supposed to be at work today. I received a Jury summons but when I called the number last night, they said I wasn't needed. Oh yeah and why am I a petit juror? I'm 6'2 folks, how tall do I have to be to be a grand juror?

Why didn't anyone tell me about the Veggie Pride Parade?



I really wish I had known, I've been looking for another occasion to wear my Okra costume.

Indiana Jones swings into theaters this week

Are you excited about the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? I sure am, and was glad to hear there was a 3.5 minute standing ovation at Cannes. Here's an early review of the film.

This weekend, Elissa's parents participated in their neighborhood garage sale and allowed me to bring some of my stuff to sell. I sold some dvds and cds but still have a lot more to get rid of. If you want to buy something from me through this blog let me know.

Rainy Daze

Happy Friday everyone. As you know, I have been recovering from some bug and today is the first day I feel as though I have emerged from this week long daze. It's raining, the trees and grass are green and summer is just around the corner.

I always find it funny when an expensive meal makes the news. A $250 hamburger, a $100,000 flan. Well, now there's a $100 Philly Cheesesteak!

There's Always One

There's always one graduate who pulls a crazy stunt, most of the time it's running naked across stage to accept his/her diploma. Not this time. William Lopez decided to jump onto the field at Yankee Stadium yesterday and try to touch home plate. He was tackled to the ground by security but not tasered. Thanks to the NY Daily News, who captured the action in photos.

Today is Free Iced Coffee Day at Dunkin Donuts...so get out there and get yourself one.

Leave it to an NYU student to invent a new virtual girlfriend. That's right, never sleep alone again...well, sort of.

Sue Simmons

I dedicate this blog entry to Sue Simmons who made the news yesterday when she cursed on air. Big deal. Leave her alone. The moment does however get added to my favorite news blooper reel!!!

On Monday night, according to someone who works at Channel 4 and has direct knowledge of the situation, Ms. Simmons and Mr. Scarborough thought the spot was being taped. When they were cued, Ms. Simmons read her line: “At 11, paying more at the grocer, but getting less. We’ll tell you how to get the most.” The station then cut to images for an upcoming story about a cruise ship, without any narrative from the two anchors. At that point, Ms. Simmons says, basically, What are you doing? But her question had two extra words.Ms. Simmons, looking genuinely pained, apologized during the 11 p.m. broadcast. “While we were live just after 10 o’clock,” she said, “I said a word that many people find offensive. I’m truly sorry. It was a mistake on my part, and I sincerely apologize.”

Today is NYU Commencement at Yankee Stadium and there were many purple robes out and about.

A lot of bizarre news stories this morning...

Like this one, about a Florida man who was ticketed for wearing a Speedo.

And this guy is suing Jetblue for making him take a seat in the bathroom so that the stewardess could have her seat to sit in.

Watch out ladies, the Sex and the City movie premiered in London and the reviews aren't great. The stars walked the red carpet in style but someone should have told Sarah Jessica Parker that a plant fell on her head. I mean, it's like not telling her she had broccoli in her teeth.

Mongol Made Me Sick

I'm really sick. It came suddenly and has made me weak and achy. Last night towards the end of Mongol, I started to feel really achy. I tried adjusting myself in my seat but I only seemed to get more uncomfortable. Then I got cold and my body was shivering. My teeth were chattering and my body was so sore that I could barely walk. I got out of bed to type this entry and then will most likely go back to sleep because now I am in pain and have a fever. How could this come on so suddenly and is Mongol to blame?

As many of you know, I have been going to these NY Film Critic Screenings and they are great for a film enthusiast such as myself. They are similar to the screenings I used to do at NYU and I would like to create a similar program but one that would attract a somewhat younger crowd. Perhaps it's because of the price or the location that this program attracts a certain type of crowd. And why does everyone seem to like every movie that we see? I'm glad that we are getting to see some of the films I missed at Sundance and I'm hoping that I can afford this program again in the Fall.

As for Mongol...I was entertained. I'm not a huge fan of epic films such as this one but the story was interesting and it was nice not to have Tom Hanks or Brad Pitt playing Genghis Khan. My favorite aspect of this film is the incredible scenery which was shot in Mongolia, China, Russia, and Kazakhstan. After the film, we were joined by Morris Rossabi, Columbia Professor and author of Khubilai Khan. It was interesting to hear what Professor Rossabi thought of the film and hear him speak about the film's inaccuracies. I had an issue with some of the editing in this film especially points where a scene would come to a quick end and another scene would start. This interrupted the flow of the film for me and made me question why the director did this while I was watching the movie. I was immersed in the film but whenever a scene faded to black I was no longer invested.

Okay, I'm burning up so I better lie down.

ichat, ilike

You would think that being the mac enthusiast I am, I would have tried ichat already. Well to be quite honest, there hasn't been a need for it...or so I thought. Last night I logged into ichat and had a video call with Boaz who is in Seattle. Not only did Boaz take me on a tour of his office with his portable macbook, he even showed me the view from his window. It was an incredible experience and I look forward to ichatting again soon. I was most amazed at the quality of the video and sound. It was really something. Boaz had an option on his version that let him change the background Pee-Wee Herman style so that he could appear to be on a beach, in the mountains, etc... Pretty cool. I was thinking about how we might want to incorporate ichat into things we are doing at NYU. Hmmm....

Did you hear about Pablo Guzman's car accident? Glad he is okay...

I should be doing work tonight but I am going to see a screening of Mongol. The story recounts the early life of Genghis Khan and I'm not quite sure I'm going to like this epic film but I hope I do.

My Commute This Morning

Everyone is always saying to me, "Come on Evan, your commute isn't that bad". Well I decided to use my cell phone to take a video of my morning commute. People waiting close to the tracks so they can be the first ones on the train." I posted it on YouTube for everyone to see.

Strawberry Fest Friday

That's right, today is Strawberry Fest out on W 4th street which means there will be a lot of fun and games, strawberries, cotton candy, and yes, the world's longest strawberry shortcake. Let's hope the rain hold out until later though. I'll post some photos live from the event. I was actually cleaning off my desk and found a flier we had made when I was on the NYU Program Board for Strawberry Fest. We had Bill Clinton hold up a Strawberry Fest T-shirt when he came to speak on campus. It was incredible. They should have used that flier again this year!

Flying woman or UFO? You be the judge...

Everytime I walk by an Indiana Jones poster I can feel the excitement in my body. I cannot wait to see this one. Feel the excitement.

We received some wonderful news yesterday. My sister's one woman show has been accepted into the 2008 NYC International Fringe Festival. I hope you will come see it in August.

'Tis May

Happy May 1st everyone! April showers bring May flowers...




I have a few really wonderful movie recommendations, one of which I saw last night. Son of Rambow is the type of movie that only comes around once in awhile and you must go see it. Child actors take up most of the screen time and they are brilliant. The script is excellent and you will laugh and cry...I did. The imaginations and creativity of children are explored in this film and it spoke to me also because these kids were passionate about making a movie. It made me want to go out and make a short film, and perhaps I will.

Set in "a long, hot summer in the early '80s", the film is a coming-of-age comedy. It tells the story of two schoolboys who are inspired by the film Rambo: First Blood to make their own action adventure film, which they hope will win them a young film-maker competition. Neglected youngster Lee Carter (Will Poulter) — the worst-behaved boy in school — has access to the home video equipment used by his bullying elder brother's video pirating enterprise. Will (Bill Milner) couldn't be more different; quiet and shy he comes from a family that belongs to the strict Plymouth Brethren religious sect. Will is forbidden to watch films or television and is made to leave his classroom when the teacher puts on a documentary film. In the corridor he meets Lee, thrown out of another class for bad behaviour. At first, Lee sees Will as an easily manipulated lackey but after Will sees a pirated copy of First Blood and throws himself into the film making experience, the two realise how much they each need a best friend.Their movie takes on a chaotic life of its own, as they fight to keep control of it, and also to keep it secret from Will's family. Ultimately it changes the lives of both boys, and their relationships with their friends and families.




This film is currently playing at the Angelika theater in NYC.



I also saw the new film, The Dukes, a film by Robert Davi starring himself and Chazz Palminteri. They were both there to discuss the film and are really nice guys and very talented. The film was funny at times but as a whole felt choppy which had a lot to do with the editing. We were treated beforehand to a live performance by The Emeralds and people were clapping and tapping along. If you like Doo-Wop and heist movies, you'll love The Dukes.

And finally, The Diving Bell and Butterfly has been released on DVD. I have never seen a film so unique as this one. The direction is incredible and the story moving. Be sure to see it.
