Mario Batali

This is a photo I snapped this morning in Washington Square Park of Mario Batali. I should have asked him for some recipes to make for Yom Kippur.

A Monkey and A Pigeon

A Monkey and A Pigeon

A monkey and a pigeon can be cute together
A monkey and a pigeon can be cute together
The monkey will climb while the pigeon will fly
The monkey eats banana and the pigeon bits of rye
But if monkey bites pigeon, pigeon will die.
A monkey and a pigeon can be cute together.

Food In The News

I've been noticing a current trend of food related stories in the news recently. First, there was this McDonald's employee who was jailed for over-salting a burger. After eating this over-salted burger, an officer felt sick and charged the employee with "assalt". Bud dum dum.

Eaten at the Great China Buffet in Nanuet, NY lately? Well, apparently an employee was caught in a photo stomping a bowl of garlic with his boots.

"The health department does not consider a person's shoe or boot a proper instrument to use in food preparation, senior public health sanitarian John Stoughton said Tuesday."

Oh really? What if the shoe or boot has never been worn? Sometimes it's difficult to locate the garlic press... I can totally understand.

And lastly... Good 'ole Starbucks is at it again. It looks as though they may start targeting children. Let's get kids hooked on mocha frappa lappa chinos at an early age. In fact, who needs breast milk. Why don't they start making baby food?

"Analyst John Owens of Morningstar said it is pretty clear that teens have become part of Starbucks’ regular customer base. He also admits that even his 3-year-old recognizes the company’s logo from frequent trips there with adults. At his local Starbucks, he said, the baristas refer to steamed milk as a “babyccino.”

Okay, now that's scary. Did you know that Starbucks is named after the first mate in Herman Melville's Moby Dick??

Iron Man

I hope you had a great weekend! Elissa and I managed to fit in some garage sales and a delicious dinner at The River Palm last night (Thanks Jon!). As you know, Rosh Hashanah and Ramadan begin this week and that means fall is here to stay. I don't know if you've seen the new Iron Man movie trailer, but here's the link if you haven't. Sorry for the short post, but I hope you have a great day! Don't forget to eat your daily serving of fruits and vegetables.

ihappy

After angering thousands of iphone users, Steve Jobs has announced that anyone who bought an iphone at the $599 or $499 price will get a $100 in store credit. Smart man. Don't give money back, give store credit!

This Fred Thompson thing is getting way out of hand. This guy should stick to acting. My dad always used to point him out on tv and I figured I'd give you a taste of his acting in case you haven't seen him in anything. Enjoy.

Farewell Pav

Pavarotti will surely be missed. I used to listen to his interpretation of Caro Mio Ben while I learned it in high school. He was an incredible tenor and he would light up a room when he walked in. We used to have a tenant in Vermont who told us that "Pav" would call him on his birthday and sing to him. This tenant passed away many years ago and I would like to think that they are having cocktails now and singing duets.

Cardboard cops are the new rage. Everyone is getting one to put in their neighborhoods to get people to slow down. It seems to be working but residents say that they can't leave the cardboard cop out all of the time otherwise people will catch on. Hey, I want a cardboard cop!

Did you buy an iphone? If so, you're a sucker.

I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. I haven't blogged since then so I'm going to try to make up for it. School is back in session and the days are getting shorter. I am already looking forward to New Orleans in Oct and Florida in December. I'm looking forward to Kid Nation and Lost on DVD. Apple picking and Halloween. I'm looking forward to many many things.
